The straightest game-improvement irons in golf* arrive in a bold new look with a rich gunmetal PVD finish. The TaylorMade Qi Gunmetal Edition Men's Irons combine a sleek, elegant profile with a suite of precision-engineered technologies that deliver straight distance, exceptional ball speed, and a satisfying feel from the first iron to the last. Whether you are attacking a tucked pin or simply finding the fairway, these irons are meticulously designed to keep the ball where it belongs — straight and on target.
It is no surprise that most golfers tend to miss to the right. That is exactly why the Qi irons were engineered to counteract that tendency. Unlike other game-improvement irons that actually favour a rightward miss, the Qi Gunmetal Edition is built for precision and control from heel to toe — because straight distance is always the best distance.
*Straightest claim based on player testing of Qi 4-iron vs. top-selling competitor 4-irons in the game-improvement category as of November 2024.
This comprehensive suite of technologies allows TaylorMade engineers to optimise each individual iron head as a unique, purpose-built club rather than a generic shape. Driven by organic face geometries, Cap Back™ Design, and the Speed Pocket™, the system tunes the performance of every head from the 4-iron through the sand wedge to promote ideal distance gapping, exemplary ball speeds, and consistently straighter shots from tee to green. The result is a set that performs as a cohesive, matched system rather than a collection of individual clubs.
TaylorMade's innovative Cap Back™ construction bridges the gap between a modern hollow-body iron and a traditional cavity-back design. By sealing the rear of the clubhead with a polymer cap, engineers can redistribute mass away from the face and into the perimeter, dramatically improving MOI and forgiveness without the harsh feel sometimes associated with hollow irons. Working in concert with the HYBRAR Echo® Dampers, the structure absorbs and filters unwanted vibrations so that every strike — centre, heel, or toe — is returned with a consistent, satisfying sound and feel that builds confidence over a full round.
FLTD CG™ technology strategically positions the centre of gravity at its lowest point in the long irons, where generating launch and carry distance is the primary goal, and then progressively shifts it higher through the mid-irons and into the scoring clubs, where precision and flight control take priority. This progressive CG management produces better launch and a more forgiving ball flight in the 4- and 5-irons, while delivering a penetrating, controllable trajectory in the 8-iron, 9-iron, and wedges. The optimised shaping — including an increased blade length and redefined leading-edge geometry — further maximises the sweet spot and promotes a consistent strike for higher launch across every iron in the set.
The Speed Pocket™ is a precisely engineered slot machined into the sole of each iron that increases face flexion across the hitting area at impact. When the ball strikes the face — particularly low on the face where off-centre contact is most common — the Speed Pocket™ allows the face to flex more freely, recovering ball speed that would otherwise be lost. The outcome is tighter distance dispersion throughout the set, reducing the penalty for less-than-perfect strikes and helping golfers maintain their intended yardage gaps from club to club. Combined with the organic face geometry of the Integrated Design System, Speed Pocket™ is a central pillar of the Qi's distance consistency.
To deliver the premium feel that game-improvement players demand alongside the performance technology they need, TaylorMade fitted the Qi Gunmetal Edition irons with proprietary HYBRAR Echo® Damper inserts. These polymer damping elements are embedded within the club structure and work in unison with the Cap Back™ construction to absorb and neutralise harsh vibration frequencies at the moment of impact. The effect is a noticeably quieter, more controlled impact sound and a smooth, solid feel — free from the metallic clang that can undermine confidence — whether you catch it pure or slightly off-centre.
Straight distance has a new finish. The Gunmetal Edition's rich Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) coating transforms the appearance of the Qi irons from standard chrome into a deep, satin gunmetal that draws attention in the bag and exudes confidence at address. PVD is a hard-wearing coating applied at the molecular level, meaning it resists scratches and corrosion far better than conventional paint or plating. The updated head shaping and clean, modern aesthetic complement the premium finish, creating a set of irons that performs at the highest level of game improvement while looking every bit as good as it plays.
