Introducing the SM9 wedge. Anyone can make a wedge, but turning a piece of high-performance technology into an instrument of creative control requires a true master. Six tour-proven grinds are designed to offer maximum creativity, versatility and consistency — all carefully developed through years of collaboration with the world's best players. The Titleist Vokey Design SM9 is the #1 wedge on Tour, and now available in a lightweight graphite-shafted ladies version engineered specifically for moderate swing speeds.
For every shot, every lie, every course — there is a grind designed for your swing. Finding the right grind to match your swing and playing conditions will give you the best turf interaction, contact and shot performance. Master Craftsman Bob Vokey has spent decades crafting, developing and improving his tour-proven grinds to fit players of all levels. Vokey's six sole grinds — F, S, M, K, L and D — allow golfers of all skill levels to be precisely fit for their swing type (steep, neutral, shallow), shot-making style (sweeper, digger) and course conditions (firm, neutral, soft). The result is the most complete lineup of grind, bounce and loft options in the game.
Building upon the groundbreaking Progressive Center of Gravity (CG) concept introduced with SM8, the SM9 pushes the envelope even further. The innovative forward CG position actually hovers in front of the wedge face, producing a solid-feeling wedge that squares up at impact for more consistent results. The CG has been raised vertically by adding weight to the topline design, where a tapered pad at the back of the toe helps align the CG properly without being visible from the playing position — promoting a more controlled ball flight and solid contact. Progressive hosel lengths are also used to help raise the CG specifically in the higher lofts (58°–62°), delivering improved distance and trajectory control with increased stability.
SM9's patented Spin Milled grooves represent Titleist's most advanced groove engineering yet. The new cutting process tightens allowable tolerances to produce consistently sharper grooves, resulting in higher and more consistent spin on every shot. The grooves are cut to the edge to maximize spin and shot control, and each groove is 100% inspected for conformity to the Rules of Golf. Micro-grooves are individually cut between each groove to maximize spin on partial shots around the green. Lower lofts (46°–54°) feature narrower, deeper grooves for controlled spin on full shots, while higher lofts (56°–62°) use wider, shallower grooves to enhance greenside spin. A localized heat treatment applied to the impact area doubles the durability of every groove.
The SM9 ladies graphite option is fitted with the Mitsubishi Tensei Red shaft in Ladies flex — a high-launching graphite shaft designed for players seeking more control from their scoring clubs. The SM9 lightweight shaft programme is aimed at players who may gain better control around the greens with a shaft profile consistent throughout their bag. For golfers who prefer lightweight shafts in their irons, having a matching wedge shaft option is a critical part of finding the right wedge and improving overall wedge performance. The package is completed with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet White grip, tuned for comfort and confidence in the hands of the ladies golfer.
