Description

Winn Excel Soft grip, Midsize, black

One of the most popular golf grips in Winn's history, the Excel Soft in Midsize is built from Winn's original Excel polymer material — a compound engineered to deliver outstanding tackiness, cushioned comfort, and superior shock absorption round after round. Whether you play with or without a glove, this grip's ultra-soft surface keeps your hands relaxed and in full control, making it an ideal choice for golfers who suffer from arthritis, hand fatigue, or anyone who simply demands the best possible feel from their equipment.

Spiral Wrap Design: The classic perforated spiral-wrap pattern prevents unwanted slipping and promotes a secure, glove-less feel at address and through the swing.
Ultra-Soft Excel Polymer: Crafted from Winn's original Excel polymer compound, the grip's extra-soft surface is gentle on the hands and causes no chafing even during the longest rounds.
Superior Shock Absorption: The slightly thicker polymer layer in the Midsize version absorbs a significant amount of unwanted vibration, reducing impact stress on joints and muscles.
Exceptional Tackiness: The Excel compound delivers reliable tackiness and high slip resistance, keeping the club firmly seated in your hands in dry playing conditions.
Lightweight Construction: At just 43 g, the grip keeps overall club weight low, helping to lower the balance point and thereby enhancing club-head speed and feel.
Classic Leather-Look Aesthetic: The perforated, minimal-texture surface gives the grip the sophisticated appearance of a traditional leather wrap while delivering all the advantages of modern synthetic polymer technology.
Midsize Fit (+1/32"): The Midsize outside diameter adds a touch of extra girth, reducing grip pressure and making it especially well suited to players with larger hands or those prone to over-gripping.
Suitable for Irons, Hybrids, and Fairway Woods: Designed for irons, hybrids, and fairway woods — clubs where exceptional feedback and feel matter most.

Technology in Detail

Excel Polymer Material

The Winn Excel Soft is built on Winn's own Excel polymer compound — the same material that launched the brand and has kept it at the top of the comfort-grip segment for decades. As the pioneer of polymer grips, Winn formulated this compound to be inherently slip-resistant while remaining remarkably supple to the touch. Unlike rubber, the Excel polymer flexes and compresses under load, meaning the grip acts as a buffer between the club and the golfer's hands. The result is a natural, confidence-inspiring feel that encourages a lighter grip pressure and more fluid swing tempo.

Spiral Wrap Design for Glove-Less Play

The hallmark of the Excel series is its classic perforated spiral-wrap construction. The spiralling wrap pattern runs continuously along the grip, creating natural channels that guide the fingers into a consistent, repeatable hand position at address. This geometry is also what prevents unwanted rotation or slipping during the swing — even without a glove. The perforations add a subtle texture that enhances tackiness without roughening the surface, so sensitive hands are never irritated even after eighteen holes.

High-Level Shock Absorption

One of the defining strengths of the Winn Excel Soft Midsize is its exceptional capacity to dampen vibration. The polymer grip layer in the Midsize variant is slightly thicker than in the standard size, which amplifies the shock-absorbing effect and further cushions the impact transmitted to the golfer's hands, wrists, and elbows. This has made the Excel Soft a long-standing favourite among golfers dealing with arthritis, tendinitis, or general hand fatigue — enabling many to continue playing pain-free for years longer than they would with a conventional rubber grip.

Midsize Fit — Reduced Grip Pressure, Better Control

The Midsize profile adds approximately 1/32" to the outside diameter compared to a standard grip, which means your fingers do not dig as deeply into the palm at address. This naturally lightens grip pressure across all fingers, releasing tension in the forearms and allowing the club to swing more freely. Golfers with larger hands benefit from a fuller, more consistent contact surface, while players prone to over-gripping find that the extra volume encourages the relaxed hold required for a smooth, controlled swing. The Midsize is compatible with a standard 0.600" core shaft diameter.

Have You Been Playing with the Same Grips for a While?

Time for a re-grip! A fresh set of grips completely transforms the feel of your clubs — it is one of the most cost-effective upgrades in golf. Worn grips force you to grip tighter, which creates tension in the forearms and robs you of swing speed and feel. Fitting new Winn Excel Soft grips will make your irons, hybrids, and fairway woods feel almost like brand-new clubs from the first swing.
