This is Mizuno's 5th generation of Chromoly and CORTECH technology, completely re-engineered to maximise CORAREA across the face. The multi-thickness face profile pushes to the extremes, with a minimum face thickness of just 1.2 mm — a 30% improvement over the previous JPX 923 generation. The unique elliptical contour runs from a high toe to a low heel orientation, specifically designed to address the most common miss patterns and retain maximum ball speed even on imperfect strikes. The result is a striking zone that delivers exceptionally consistent distance performance across its entire area.
The innovative one-piece Cup Face construction features strategically thinned areas around the full 360-degree perimeter of the face. This engineering approach not only expands the CORAREA but also ensures maximum ball speed is maintained across a far larger portion of the face than a traditional flat face design. The variable sole surface area is thinner, contributing to greater COR participation at impact. For the first time in the JPX series, the JPX 925 Hot Metal family incorporates nickel tungsten custom weighting, brought over from the Mizuno Pro series. The tungsten weights are positioned low in the rear of the head across irons 4 through 7, strategically pulling the centre of gravity lower and deeper than in a pure Chromoly design. This lower CG produces a measurably higher launch with a lower sweet spot, generates a steeper landing angle for better green-stopping ability, and also helps stabilise strikes from the bottom portion of the face. This multi-material approach delivers the combination of speed, height and forgiveness the HL model demands.
Variable Sole Thickness is an engineering feature that works independently of the tungsten weights to maximise face performance. By varying the thickness of the sole material, Mizuno engineers are able to increase the overall face flex area and expand CORAREA beyond what would be possible with a uniform sole design. This means more of the face participates in the energy transfer at impact, contributing to improved distance and tighter dispersion on off-centre hits. The feature ensures the full performance benefits of the CORTECH system are accessible across the widest possible impact zone.
The Balance Stability Frame distributes mass intelligently around the perimeter of the cavity back head to improve both control and forgiveness. A more reinforced and rigid cavity frame — a direct result of the latest iteration of Mizuno's Harmonic Impact Technology — delivers a solid, yet hot impact sound that is characteristic of a tour-quality iron. The balanced mass distribution also maintains high MOI across the face, so that off-centre strikes retain more of their velocity and direction, resulting in tighter shot dispersion and a more reliable distance pattern throughout the set.
