The purpose-built bunker wedge for easy sand escapes. The PING BunkR is specially engineered for golfers who struggle out of bunkers and want to make confident, easy exits every time. It combines an extra-high 64° loft with a wide sole and an effective 14.5° of bounce, so the head glides smoothly through the sand rather than digging in — launching the ball high over the lip and straight towards the green.
The design draws inspiration from the legendary PING Eye2 wedge: the sole is wide, the head shape inspires confidence at address, and the club is built to work with a completely standard, square-faced setup. There is no need to open the face or manipulate your technique — simply aim at the target, make a normal bunker swing, and the BunkR does the rest.
The head is cast from 431 stainless steel and features a cavity badge for a pleasing feel and sound at impact. Precision-milled MicroMax grooves cover the entire face, generating high spin and helping the ball stop quickly on the green — whether you are playing from sand, or from the rough fringe around the bunker.
Ideal for:
The BunkR draws directly on the heritage of the legendary PING Eye2, one of the most playable and forgiving wedge shapes ever created. The wide sole and confidence-inspiring triangular profile make the club look "friendly" at address — the face appears large and lofted, giving golfers the visual reassurance that the ball can only go up. This psychological benefit is especially important in the bunker, where many golfers tighten up and mis-hit. The EYE2 shaping also distributes weight low and wide, promoting a consistent, penetrating strike even from imperfect lies in compacted or wet sand.
One of the biggest challenges of traditional bunker play is that golfers must open the face significantly at address, dramatically changing the effective loft and requiring a very specific, practised swing path. The BunkR eliminates this complexity entirely. Its combination of extreme loft and high bounce means you can address the ball with a completely square face, aim directly at your target, and execute a normal chipping or bunker swing. The result is a more repeatable, consistent motion that reduces the number of variables and dramatically lowers the chance of a mis-hit. This makes the BunkR not just effective, but genuinely easy to use for golfers of any ability.
With 14.5° of bounce, the BunkR's wide sole is designed to skim across the surface of the sand rather than dig into it. When the trailing edge contacts the sand first and the bounce angle redirects the sole upward, the club effortlessly slides through the bunker, transferring maximum energy to the ball. This generous bounce works exceptionally well in typical bunker conditions — both fluffy, soft sand and firmer, wet sand — reducing fat contacts, chunk shots, and skulled balls. The combination of high bounce and wide sole makes the BunkR one of the most forgiving sand wedges available for everyday golfers.
At 64°, the BunkR carries more loft than any standard lob wedge (typically 58–60°), which means the ball launches extremely steeply and lands with a very high angle of descent. This steep descent creates a soft, controlled landing that stops quickly — even on fast greens. The extra loft also gives golfers confidence that the ball will clear even very high bunker lips without needing to adjust swing speed or technique. For golfers who have always found it difficult to get enough height and stop from the sand, those extra degrees of loft represent a meaningful, game-changing advantage.
The BunkR is fitted as standard with the lightweight PING Z-Z115 steel shaft in Wedge flex. Its lower balance point places the centre of gravity closer to the clubhead, delivering enhanced feel and feedback through impact — helping golfers develop a better sense of how the head is moving through the sand. The PING 360 Dyla-wedge Lite grip is ¾ inch (approximately 19 mm) longer than a conventional grip and features reduced taper. This extended length allows golfers to choke down on the club easily, providing greater versatility for shorter partial shots and helping dial in trajectory control for a range of distances around the green.

The PING Colour Code Chart is a fitting tool used to determine the optimal iron and wedge specifications for each individual golfer, based on their physical measurements (height and wrist-to-floor distance) and swing dynamics. Each colour code corresponds to a specific combination of club specifications:
Using the Colour Code Chart, golfers and fitting specialists can identify the appropriate colour code. For example, a taller golfer with a flatter swing may require a different colour code than a shorter golfer with a more upright swing plane.
