Chain-Link Face Milling is a specialised CNC texture applied to the Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) insert that resembles a precise, interlocking chain-link grid pattern across the full face. By machining this geometry into the insert surface, Scotty Cameron engineers deliberately reduce the number of direct contact points — sometimes called touch points — between the face and the ball at the moment of impact. Fewer high-pressure contact points produce a softer, more muted acoustic signature and a noticeably damped feel that many players describe as exceptionally smooth.

Beyond the sensory improvement, the Chain-Link texture also promotes a cleaner ball roll from the very first rotation. The patterned face reduces the initial skid phase that can occur on putts struck with a perfectly flat insert, encouraging the ball to transition more quickly into true topspin roll.
