Description

Scotty Cameron 2026 Phantom 7.2 Putter + Headcover

High-MOI mallet with blade feel and "rail-like" alignment. The Scotty Cameron Phantom 7.2 is the putter for players who love the feel and setup of a classic blade putter with a plumbing neck, but refuse to sacrifice the enormous stability and forgiveness of a high-MOI mallet. It shares the head outline of the Phantom 7 and 7.5 models, but adds Scotty's I-Beam plumbing neck, so at address it sets up with a distinctly "blade-like" feel, while the long, rail-like alignment features at the rear of the head make it significantly easier to aim at your target.

The new generation Phantom features a full-face Studio Carbon Steel insert with chain-link milling, which softens sound, delivers a softer and more controlled feel, and provides highly consistent ball speed across the entire striking surface. A deeper face, slightly rounded topline, and redesigned sole ensure a clean, repeatable head set-up that inspires confidence on every putt.

Ideal for:

  • Players who prefer the setup and feel of a traditional blade putter with a plumbing neck, but want the stability and forgiveness of a mallet
  • Golfers with a slight arc in their putting stroke who do not putt on a perfectly straight-back, straight-through path
  • Discerning players who demand premium Scotty Cameron craftsmanship, a soft and controlled feel, and highly intuitive alignment

Key Features

  • I-Beam plumbing neck — blade-like setup and feel in a high-MOI mallet body, with medium toe flow
  • High MOI with rail-like alignment — elongated wings and prominent flange lines for confident, repeatable aim
  • Full-face Studio Carbon Steel insert with chain-link milling — softer sound, controlled feel, consistent ball speed across the face
  • Tour-influenced shaping — deeper face, rounded topline, and redesigned sole for a stable, repeatable address position
  • Multi-material 303 + 6061 construction — stainless steel face and body combined with aircraft aluminum shell for maximum perimeter weighting
  • Interchangeable sole weights — fine-tune head weight to your preferred length and feel
  • Gray Full Contact grip — promotes a stable, low-wrist grip for consistent stroke mechanics
  • Available in 33", 34", and 35" lengths, right-hand only
  • Includes matching headcover

Technology in Detail

I-Beam Plumbing Neck — Blade Feel in a Mallet

The precision-milled I-Beam plumbing neck is the defining character of the Phantom 7.2, giving the putter the look, setup, and feel of a classic blade at address — all within the body of a high-MOI mallet. Because the neck follows a traditional plumbing-neck geometry, players who have long gravitated toward blade putters will find an immediately familiar sight picture. At the same time, the neck geometry produces a medium toe flow, making the Phantom 7.2 an excellent fit for golfers whose putting stroke follows a slight arc rather than a perfectly straight path. The result is a putter that bridges two worlds without compromising either.

High MOI and Rail-Like Alignment

The Phantom 7.2 shares its head shape with the Phantom 7 and 7.5, featuring the same elongated wing extensions and prominent alignment lines built into the flange. The combination of milled reference points on the topline and long parallel alignment lines running along the rear of the head creates a powerful "rail-like" visual effect. This corridor of alignment guides the eye naturally to the target line, reducing the cognitive load of aiming and significantly boosting confidence over the ball. The wide, perimeter-weighted head also delivers extremely high MOI, so mis-hits across the face result in less distance and direction loss — a critical benefit for any level of golfer.

Full-Face Studio Carbon Steel Insert with Chain-Link Milling

The new full-face Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) insert is milled with a distinctive chain-link pattern — a precisely engineered CNC texture that reduces the number of direct contact points between the insert and the ball at the moment of impact. This reduction in contact surface area is what gives the Phantom 7.2 its characteristic soft, muted sound and subjectively softer feel compared to a conventional milled face. Beyond feel, the chain-link milling also improves roll characteristics from the first moment of contact: the ball transitions more smoothly from impact into a true forward roll, with less skid, more consistency, and predictable speed even on strikes that are slightly off-centre. The SCS insert runs the full width and height of the face, ensuring those benefits are available regardless of where on the face you make contact.

Tour-Influenced Shaping — Deeper Face and Rounded Topline

Every dimension of the Phantom 7.2's head has been shaped with tour-level input. The face is deeper than previous generations, presenting a more substantial look at address that many players associate with premium, tour-validated putters. The topline is subtly rounded rather than sharply squared off, which softens the visual weight of the head without removing the stability that a full mallet provides. The redesigned sole ensures the putter sits flush and level on a wide variety of green surfaces, eliminating the rocking that can occur with a poorly fitting sole geometry. Together, these details make it easier to achieve a consistent, repeatable address position — which directly translates into more stable loft, consistent strike location, and more predictable distance control on every putt.

Multi-Material 303 + 6061 Construction

The Phantom 7.2 is built from a carefully selected combination of two premium materials. The face and body are machined from 303 stainless steel — a material Scotty Cameron has favoured for decades for its exceptional machinability and its characteristic soft, responsive feel at impact. The sole and rear of the head are formed from 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum shaped into a structural shell construction. Aluminum is significantly lighter than steel, so placing it at the rear of the head allows the design team to redistribute saved weight to the extreme heel and toe positions of the face. This perimeter weighting scheme is what pushes the MOI of the Phantom 7.2 to the high end of the mallet category, delivering the generous forgiveness that players expect from a modern high-performance putter.

Interchangeable Sole Weights and Gray Full Contact Grip

The Phantom 7.2 comes fitted with two interchangeable sole weights, with the specific weight pairing selected to match the standard swing weight targets for each shaft length: 2 x 20 g for the 33" version, 2 x 15 g for the 34" version, and 2 x 10 g for the 35" version. This system allows golfers and fitters to fine-tune the overall head weight and swing weight of the putter without the need for a custom order. The putter is also equipped with a Scotty Cameron Gray Full Contact grip — a large-format grip designed to encourage a stable, tension-free hold with minimal wrist involvement throughout the stroke. Reduced wrist activity promotes a more pendulum-like motion, which is the foundation of consistent, repeatable putting.

Chain-Link Face Milling — Explained

Chain-Link Face Milling is a specialised CNC surface texture applied to the Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) insert of the Phantom 7.2. Under close inspection, the milled pattern resembles a fine chain-link mesh — and that appearance reflects its functional purpose. By machining the face with this repeating geometry, Scotty Cameron's engineers deliberately reduce the number of direct contact points between the insert and the golf ball at the precise moment of impact.

This reduction in contact surface area has two primary effects. First, it changes the acoustic signature of the putter: with fewer metal-to-cover contact points, the sound at impact is noticeably more muted and damped — golfers typically describe it as softer and more pleasant than a conventionally milled face. Second, the reduced contact area changes how force is transferred from the face to the ball. The SCS insert material combined with the chain-link geometry produces a softer, more controlled feel that many players associate with premium, tour-quality putters.

Beyond sound and feel, the chain-link milling also influences roll quality. The texture helps the ball transition out of the impact zone more smoothly, reducing the initial skid phase that occurs when a ball is struck with a flat face. The result is a truer, earlier roll — one that tracks your intended line more faithfully from the first moment of contact. Both manufacturer testing and independent sources confirm that this type of face texturing contributes to more consistent roll characteristics and more predictable ball speed, even when contact is made slightly away from the geometric centre of the face.
