The Spider ZT Max takes the original Spider ZT design and scales it up by approximately 20%, pushing mass even further to the perimeter. Four heavy steel and tungsten corner weights surround a lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum body, achieving a MOI rating of approximately 7,000 g/cm² — significantly higher than the 5K (5,000 g/cm²) of the original Spider ZT. This extreme perimeter weighting makes the ZT Max one of the most forgiving putters available, minimising the penalty for off-centre contact.
By boring the KBS shaft directly in line with the putter head's centre of gravity — with 2° of forward shaft lean and 34 mm of onset — the Spider ZT Max creates a toe-up, or "face-forward", address position. This minimises torque during the stroke, reduces the need for hand manipulation, and promotes a more natural, repeatable putting motion. The result: the face stays squarer to the target line for longer, improving directional control and confidence at address and through impact.
Like all Spider putters, the ZT Max features TaylorMade's proven Pure Roll™ insert. Made from a proprietary blend of Surlyn and aluminum, the black insert's 45°-angled grooves are engineered to immediately promote end-over-end forward roll from the moment of impact, reducing skid and delivering more consistent distance control. The Surlyn-aluminum composite also produces a soft yet responsive feel and a pleasingly muted sound.
