TaylorMade's lowest-spinning, fastest five-layer Tour ball. The 2026 TaylorMade TP5x is the latest generation of TaylorMade's flagship Tour ball, reengineered from core to cover for exceptional speed and consistency. Compared to the TP5, the TP5x is firmer, faster, and purposefully lower-spinning with the driver and long irons — while still retaining a soft feel and high spin around the green. With revolutionary microcoating technology and redesigned mantle layers, the TP5x delivers maximum ball speed, consistent flight, and a tight shot dispersion: exactly what performance players and low-handicappers demand from a top Tour ball.
Best suited for:
Traditional ball finishing has a fundamental problem: paint pools in the dimples, disrupting aerodynamics and causing small but measurable deviations in ball flight. TaylorMade developed a revolutionary microcoating process — an ultra-thin layer of paint, thinner than a human hair, applied with extreme uniformity across the entire surface of the ball. Paint is applied and controlled to the one-millionth of a gram, with precisely managed cure times, temperatures, and atomisation.
The practical results are significant: more consistent aerodynamics, a more stable apex height and carry distance, and a tighter left-to-right dispersion window — especially in the wind. This makes the TP5x one of the most consistent Tour balls TaylorMade has ever produced.
The microcoating layer is thinner than a human hair, yet delivers measurable performance advantages that traditional paint application cannot match. By eliminating uneven pooling in the dimples, each ball leaves the factory with a more aerodynamically true surface.
The tangible benefits for golfers include: more consistent ball flight from shot to shot, optimised carry distance with better energy retention, and a reduced left-to-right miss window — producing greater directional accuracy and reliability, particularly in challenging wind conditions.
The 2026 TP5x features a reengineered Speed Wrapped Core that increases the coefficient of restitution (COR), generating exceptional ball speed when you need it most — with the driver and long irons. The firmer core composition provides a stronger foundation for the three progressively stiffer mantle layers that form the ball's speed gradient.
Each mantle layer is engineered from new materials to contribute differently to ball speed and spin. This architecture means the TP5x achieves the highest ball speed and lowest driver spin of any TaylorMade Tour ball, while maintaining outstanding wedge spin and greenside feel. Digital prototyping allowed TaylorMade engineers to analyse more than 100,000 design variations to arrive at this optimal five-layer structure.

The TP5x uses a five-layer construction: a Speed Wrapped Core, three mantle layers of increasing stiffness, and a cast urethane cover. This Speed-Layer System creates a progressive speed gradient — each layer influences ball speed and spin differently — resulting in an architecture that delivers maximum spin separation between driver and wedge shots.
With the driver and long irons, the construction promotes low spin and explosive distance. With wedges and short irons, the ultra-thin cast urethane cover takes over, delivering the high spin and precise control you need for scoring around the green. The 2026 generation has a firmer, faster core and new-material mantle layers for even greater ball speed while preserving excellent wedge spin and short-game feel.

Like previous generations, the 2026 TP5x uses a Tour Flight cast urethane cover paired with the Seamless Tour Flight Dimple Pattern — but the dimple geometry has been refined for 2026 to work in concert with the new microcoating finish. The reshaped dimples minimise aerodynamic turbulence and fine-tune the lift-to-drag ratio for a stable, penetrating ball flight.
The practical result is a mid-trajectory flight that holds its line in the wind, reaches a reliable peak height, and avoids the ballooning effect that costs distance. Into the greens, the ultra-thin cast urethane cover continues to deliver elite-level wedge spin and the responsive feel that short-game control demands.
