Description

PING Blueprint S men's irons, graphite

Premium forged irons engineered for the demanding player. Developed following extensive testing with PING's top tour professionals, the Blueprint S delivers the control and precision that elite golfers demand, while adding a meaningful degree of forgiveness over a pure blade design. The fully forged 8620 carbon steel head features a clean cavity back design, an eye-catching forged textured pattern, and a Hydropearl 2.0 chrome finish — all wrapped in a compact, pro-preferred silhouette with a thin top line, minimal offset, and a shorter blade length that inspires confidence at address.

The Blueprint S is the ideal choice for skilled, performance-oriented golfers with a lower handicap who want a workable, forged iron with added forgiveness — without sacrificing the classic players' look they love.

Best suited for:

  • Skilled and performance-oriented players with a lower handicap who want a forged players iron with added forgiveness.
  • Golfers who prefer a compact shape, minimal offset, and the ability to shape shots, but do not want to play a pure blade.
  • Players building a combo set — Blueprint S pairs perfectly with Blueprint T in the long irons or i230 in the shorter clubs, as standard lofts are matched across all three models for a seamless transition.

Key Features

  • Forged 8620 Carbon Steel Construction: Fully forged head delivers the soft, responsive feel and shot-shaping capability expected from a premium players iron.
  • Precision-Pocket Forging (3–5 irons): A patented process forges a cavity pocket into the 3, 4, and 5 irons, saving 10g of weight for redistribution to increase MOI and forgiveness.
  • Elastomer Insert: Concealed in the pocket of the 3–5 irons to retain the solid feel and sound expected from a forged players iron.
  • Pro-Preferred Compact Shape: Thin top line, minimal offset, and shorter blade length create a clean, confidence-inspiring look at address favoured by tour professionals.
  • Machined Face & Grooves: Precision-milled grooves optimise launch and spin for superior shot control and improved green-holding ability.
  • Tungsten Toe Weight: High-density tungsten toe screw and shaft tip weights allow fine-tuning of swingweight for a customised feel and balance.
  • Narrower Sole: Promotes consistent turf interaction across all course conditions for versatile performance from any lie.
  • Combo-Set Compatible: Standard lofts are identical to Blueprint T and i230, enabling seamless blended-set configurations.
  • Available in Right- and Left-Handed Models: Full variant range covers both orientations across multiple set configurations and shaft options.

Technology in Detail

Forged for the Best

Extensive collaboration with PING's top tour professionals shaped every detail of the Blueprint S. No element was overlooked during development — the result is a set of forged irons with genuinely distinctive features that stand apart in the players iron category. The Blueprint S provides the shot-making precision and score-lowering performance demanded by the best players in the world, with a level of added forgiveness that makes it more accessible than a traditional blade without compromising on feel or workability.

Precision-Pocket Forging

Using a patented technique, a pocket is forged directly into the cavity of the 3, 4, and 5 irons. This process saves 10 grams of weight, which is strategically redistributed across the clubhead to increase the Moment of Inertia (MOI) and optimise the centre of gravity position — delivering more distance and enhanced trajectory control. An elastomer insert is concealed within the pocket to ensure the solid feel and satisfying sound that forged players iron enthusiasts expect, preserving the premium impact experience while providing real-world forgiveness on off-centre strikes.

Pro-Preferred Look

The compact head shape with a thin top line, minimal offset, and shorter blade length was developed in direct collaboration with leading PING Tour professionals who demanded a blade-style iron with genuine playability and control. The address view is clean and striking — an aesthetically confident design that appeals to the discerning eye of the skilled player. This visual simplicity translates into mental confidence over the ball, encouraging a free-flowing, committed swing.

Machined Face & Grooves

The face and grooves are precision-machined for optimal launch conditions and spin rates — the preferred performance profile for players who rely on pinpoint control. In testing with tour players, the Blueprint S generated more ball speed than previous generations while simultaneously increasing peak trajectory height, resulting in improved stopping power on the green. The milled face texture also provides consistent ball-contact quality across varying weather and turf conditions.

Narrower Sole & Tour Validation

High-density tungsten toe screws and shaft tip weights allow precise swingweight fine-tuning to match individual player preferences. The narrower sole promotes consistent, clean turf interaction under all course conditions, giving players the confidence to attack any lie. Standard lofts are identical to those of the Blueprint T and i230 iron families, making the Blueprint S a perfect candidate for blended or combo sets. The 6-iron through pitching wedge are specifically sized and shaped to maximise workability and control — a design that PING Tour professionals, including Sahith Theegala (the first to win with Blueprint S), quickly embraced for its straighter ball flight and consistent distance performance.

These are design specifications that may vary due to manufacturing tolerances. Lie angle is based on the Black Colour Code at standard length. Bounce angles will vary slightly if ordered with non-standard loft specifications. Achievable swingweights depend on shaft, length, and grip combinations. Available in right- and left-handed models.

Power Spec Loft is a fitting option for players looking to boost iron distance or decrease spin to achieve a desired trajectory window — a calculated performance gain without compromising the integrity of the club's design.

Retro Spec Loft is a fitting option for players less focused on total distance and more focused on precision, a higher trajectory, and increased stopping power — ideal for a 3-wedge setup or a more classic loft specification.

PING Colour Code Chart

The PING Colour Code Chart is a fitting tool used to determine the optimal iron specifications based on a golfer's physical measurements (height and wrist-to-floor distance) and swing dynamics. Each colour code represents a specific combination of iron specifications — primarily lie angle and shaft length — ensuring the club is perfectly matched to the individual player.

  • Lie Angle: The angle between the shaft and the ground at address. The correct lie angle directly influences the direction of ball flight — an incorrect lie angle can cause consistent misses to the left or right, even with a well-executed swing.
  • Shaft Length: Shaft length affects posture, swing plane, and ultimately distance and accuracy. Longer shafts generally produce more distance but can reduce control, while shorter shafts offer greater precision at the potential cost of distance.
  • Grip Size: Grip size influences comfort, control, and feel. Golfers with larger hands may prefer thicker grips for better control, while players with smaller hands often favour thinner grips for enhanced feedback and feel.

Using the colour code chart, fitters and golfers can identify the correct colour code for a given player's measurements and swing. For example, a taller golfer with a flatter swing may require a different colour code than a shorter player with a more upright swing arc. All Blueprint S irons listed here are supplied in the Blue dot specification.
