Description

PING i240 Men's Irons - Steel

A tour-inspired players iron built for added forgiveness without giving up control, look or feel. The PING i240 blends a compact, tour-style profile with a genuinely high level of forgiveness on off-center strikes. Compared with the previous generation, PING lowered the center of gravity, increased head stability and improved feel at impact, resulting in a higher, softer-landing ball flight and more consistent distances that low and mid-handicap players will appreciate.

Ideal for:
- Low to mid-handicap players who want a players-iron look and precision, but still value real forgiveness.
- Golfers who want a higher launch, a softer landing and consistent spin on approach shots.
- A great choice for anyone who wants a tour-inspired iron without going all the way to a pure blade design such as the PING Blueprint S or T.

Key Features

  • Tour-inspired players iron with a compact profile and genuine forgiveness.
  • Lower center of gravity for a higher launch and more consistent distance.
  • Lighter badge and elastomer insert increase MOI, mainly in the long and mid irons.
  • True cavity-back design for classic perimeter-weighting benefits.
  • Short blade length and thin topline for a clean, players-preferred look.
  • Tour-proven grooves add spin from the fairway and reduce it from the rough.
  • Refined sole with tip weighting for clean turf contact and precise swingweight tuning.
  • Stock Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 115 steel shaft for a mid launch and mid spin.
  • Available in Regular and Stiff flex, right-handed and left-handed models.
  • Power Spec and Retro Spec custom loft options for a tailored ball flight.

Technology in Detail

Forgiveness With a Premium Feel

A lighter badge and a soft elastomer insert improve feel at impact and free up weight that PING redistributes around the perimeter of the head. The result is a meaningful increase in MOI (moment of inertia), so mis-hits keep more ball speed and hold their line, an effect that is most noticeable in the long and mid irons.

True Cavity-Back Design

A more traditional cavity-back shape brings the classic benefits of perimeter weighting, especially through the long and mid irons, while keeping a clean, players-preferred look at address. A compact blade length and thin topline help the i240 sit behind the ball like a true players iron without sacrificing the stability that low and mid-handicap golfers rely on.

Precision Weighting and Smooth Turf Interaction

The sole carries a rounded leading edge and enough bounce for clean, solid contact through the turf on every strike. High-density screws and tip weights at the custom tuning port let PING fine-tune swingweight and overall balance for each shaft and grip combination, so the finished iron feels consistent from the 3-iron down through the Utility Wedge.

Notes

  • These are design specifications and may vary slightly due to manufacturing tolerances.
  • Lie angle is based on the Black dot color code at standard length.
  • Power Spec Loft is a custom loft configuration for players seeking extra distance or reduced spin for a specific ball flight, engineered without compromising the integrity of the club design.
  • Retro Spec Loft suits players who prioritize precision and a higher trajectory over outright distance, with shots that stop faster; it also creates useful distance gaps for a 3-wedge setup or a more classic loft specification.
  • Bounce angles vary slightly when ordered with a non-standard loft specification.
  • Standard swingweights for graphite-shafted clubs are 2 to 3 points lighter than shown, depending on shaft flex.
  • Achievable swingweight depends on the shaft and grip combination; both right-handed and left-handed models are available.

Shaft

Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 115 steel shaft - Regular (108g), Stiff (109g), X-Stiff (110g). It is a mid-launching shaft with a predictable mid-launch, mid-spin profile that delivers a stable, consistent feel with tight dispersion. Selected configurations are also available with a PING AWT 3.0 shaft. Other shaft options are available on request.

Grip

Golf Pride 360 Tour Velvet grip, black.

PING Color Code Chart

The PING Color Code Chart is a fitting tool used to determine the optimal iron specifications for a golfer, based on physical measurements (height and wrist-to-floor distance) and swing dynamics. The chart uses a set of colors, each representing a specific combination of iron specifications such as lie angle and shaft length. The right grip size matters just as much and should not be overlooked.

  • Lie Angle: The angle between the shaft and the ground at address. Lie angle influences the direction the ball starts on after impact.
  • Shaft Length: Shaft length affects a golfer's posture, swing plane and, ultimately, the distance and accuracy of each shot. Longer shafts generally add distance but can cost some control, while shorter shafts can improve control at the expense of distance.
  • Grip Size: Grip size affects comfort, control and feel. Golfers with larger hands may prefer a thicker grip for better control, while golfers with smaller hands may prefer a thinner grip for a better feel.

Using the color code chart, golfers and fitters can identify the right code for a given player. For example, a taller golfer with a flatter swing may need a different color code than a shorter golfer with a more upright swing.
