Extreme Forgiveness — Maximum MOI

The G740 is PING's most forgiving iron, achieved through a combination of a longer blade length and a thicker topline that together raise the moment of inertia (MOI) to its highest level in the G-series. Higher MOI means the club head resists twisting on off-centre strikes, preserving more ball speed and keeping shots on a straighter, more consistent trajectory even when the contact is not perfect. The enlarged face also contributes to this forgiveness, giving the golfer's target audience a larger zone of effective impact and promoting more consistent distance and direction across the full iron set.

Forgiving Sole Design

The wider sole provides a softer, more forgiving interaction with the turf, reducing the penalty for shots struck slightly heavy. A shorter hosel frees up mass that is redistributed into the cavity, contributing to improved impact feel and a lower centre of gravity. PING-Engineered Shafts

The G740 is offered with PING's own purpose-built graphite shafts to complement the iron's performance characteristics. The PING Alta CB Blue graphite shaft features a lightweight, counterbalanced design that promotes a mid-to-high launch, making it an excellent match for golfers who want to maximise height and carry distance with a smooth, controlled swing tempo. The PING Alta Quick graphite option is available in the 35-flex and 45-flex profiles, engineered to generate additional clubhead speed for players who benefit from a lighter total weight. For sets that include a pitching wedge utility iron, the UST Mamiya Recoil DART graphite shaft is also available, providing tour-validated performance in the F3 (regular) and F4 (stiff) profiles. Each shaft is selected and trimmed to optimise the performance of the G740 head throughout the full set configuration.
