Description

PING ChipR wedge, graphite

A specialised chipper for confident, consistent shots around the green. The PING ChipR is a fully engineered short-game solution designed for golfers who lack confidence with a traditional wedge and frequently struggle with chunked or bladed chip shots. It blends the control of a putter with the loft of a short iron, making bump-and-run shots easier and more repeatable — without requiring any change to your putting technique.

With a loft of 38.5° (close to a 9-iron), a standard putter length of 35", and a lie angle of 70°, the ChipR lets you set up at address just as you would over a putt. A simple, putting-like stroke sends the ball rolling smoothly toward the hole. The ChipR is ideal for shots from the fringe, light rough, and fairway within approximately 40 yards of the green.

Inspired by the PING Chipo — introduced by PING founder Karsten Solheim in the late 1970s — the modern ChipR is a great choice for anyone who wants to simplify their short game, eliminate the fear of chipping, and turn uncertain greenside situations into easy bump-and-run shots.

PING Colour Code Chart

The PING Colour Code Chart is a fitting tool used to determine the optimal club specifications — including lie angle and shaft length — based on a golfer's physical measurements (height and wrist-to-floor distance) and swing dynamics. Each colour in the chart represents a specific combination of iron specifications tailored to match the player's natural swing plane and posture.

Lie Angle: The angle between the shaft and the ground at address. The lie angle directly influences the direction of the ball at impact — a lie angle that is too flat or too upright can cause shots to miss left or right of the target consistently.

Shaft Length: Shaft length affects a golfer's posture, swing plane, and ultimately distance and accuracy. Longer shafts can generate more distance but may reduce control; shorter shafts typically offer greater precision at the cost of some distance.

Grip Size: Correct grip size affects comfort, control, and feel. Golfers with larger hands may prefer thicker grips for better control, while those with smaller hands often benefit from thinner grips for improved feel and feedback.

Using the colour code chart, golfers and fitting specialists can identify the appropriate colour code for their game. A taller golfer with a flatter swing plane will require a different colour code than a shorter golfer with a more upright swing — ensuring every PING club performs as intended for its owner.
