Description

PING s259 Chrome wedge, steel

Tour-winning wedge with maximum spin, control, and versatility. The PING s259 builds on the tour-proven s159 family and takes the short game even further. It delivers more spin, sharper distance control, and a wider selection of lofts and grinds, making it easy to build your ideal wedge setup to match your swing and course conditions. A compact head with a Tour-preferred shape, the soft feel of 8620 carbon steel, and two premium finishes — Chrome and Midnight — make the s259 an exceptional tool for both competitive players and ambitious amateurs.

Ideal for:

  • Performance players and low handicappers who want a Tour shape, feel, and the ability to fine-tune grinds precisely to their game.
  • Mid-handicap golfers seeking maximum spin and distance control who also appreciate added forgiveness.
  • Anyone wanting a unified wedge family (PW to LW) with a consistent look, spin, and feel across the entire loft range.

Key Features

  • Tour-Preferred Head Shape: Compact 8620 carbon steel head with a refined hosel transition and a full-length sole groove for a clean, confidence-inspiring address look.
  • High Friction. High Spin: Wheel-cut grooves combined with precision-milled face surface and PING's advanced face blast technology maximise friction and spin at impact.
  • MicroMax Grooves: Higher lofts use tightly spaced MicroMax grooves for maximum greenside spin; lower lofts use a 20-degree sidewall to maximise groove volume for full-shot control.
  • Six Grind Options: B, E, H, S, T, and W Grinds cover every swing type and course condition, from shallow to steep angles of attack.
  • Hydropearl 2.0 Chrome Finish: Hydrophobic surface treatment repels moisture for improved consistency and control in wet conditions.
  • Midnight Finish (Europe): Darker anti-glare finish available exclusively in S-Grind for an attractive address look.
  • Complete System Design: Patented Dyla-Grip and lightweight Z-Z115 steel shaft engineered together to enhance feel, shot-making versatility, and grip position control.
  • Wide Loft Range: Available from 46° to 62° across multiple grind options, covering pitching wedge through lob wedge distances.
  • Right- and Left-Hand Models: Full range available for both right-handed and left-handed golfers.

Technology in Detail

Tour-Preferred Shape

The tour-winning head shape frames the ball beautifully at address, giving players immediate confidence over every shot. A refined hosel transition and a full-length sole groove create a clean, square look that suits both low-handicap competitors and ambitious amateurs alike. A larger elastomer insert — housed within an 8620 carbon steel head — produces the Tour-preferred feel that players demand, delivering the perfect blend of softness and feedback. The result is a wedge that looks, sounds, and feels every bit as good as it performs.

High Friction. High Spin.

Wheel-cut grooves and a precision-milled face surface are combined with PING's advanced face blast technology to improve surface texture and maximise friction at impact. This generates higher spin and sharper control with a lower, more penetrating ball flight. Grooves are precision-milled to varying dimensions depending on loft — higher lofts use tightly spaced MicroMax grooves for maximum greenside spin, while lower lofts use a 20-degree sidewall to maximise groove volume for full-shot distance control. The result is a wedge that performs equally well on full shots, partial shots, and delicate touch plays around the green.

Performance Finishes

All loft and grind combinations are available in performance-enhancing finishes, subject to regional availability. The proven Hydropearl 2.0 Chrome finish is hydrophobic, helping to repel moisture for improved control and consistency in wet conditions — an essential advantage for year-round golfers. In Europe, the darker Midnight finish is available exclusively in the S-Grind and delivers an attractive, anti-glare appearance at address that many tour players prefer. Both finishes are designed not only for aesthetics but to actively contribute to shot-making consistency across varying weather conditions.

Six Grind Options — Find Your Perfect Sole

The s259 is available in six distinct sole grinds — B, E, H, S, T, and W — each engineered to suit a specific swing type, angle of attack, and playing condition. Whether you prefer a shallow, sweeping swing or a steep, descending attack, there is a grind tailored to your game. New loft additions in 50° and 52° for the W-Grind help steeper players optimise gapping in their lower-lofted wedges, while the updated T-Grind allows the face to sit extremely low on open-face shots for maximum creative play around the green. Use the PING WebFit Wedge app to identify the grinds that best fit your short game in minutes — no download or login required.

Shaft

PING Z-Z115 Wedge — Steel shaft, Wedge flex (111 g). A low-mid launch profile designed specifically for wedge performance, engineered alongside the Dyla-Grip as part of a complete system. Additional shaft options are available on request, including True Temper Dynamic Gold, Nippon N.S. Pro Modus 3, KBS Tour, PING AWT 3.0, PING Alta CB Blue (graphite), and UST Recoil Dart.

Alternative shaft available on request.

Grip

PING Dyla-Grip — The patented Dyla-Grip is 3/4 in. longer than a standard grip, features a reduced taper, and includes alignment markings for grip position, shaft lean, and face manipulation. These hand-position indicators make it easier to choke down and execute a wider range of shots with greater precision and consistency. The low balance point of the Z-Z115 shaft combined with the Dyla-Grip system delivers improved feel of the club head through impact. For golfers preferring a lightweight option, the graphite PING Alta CB Blue shaft is available — ideal for recreational players or those with a slower swing speed.

The new Dyla-Grip and the lightweight steel Z-Z115 shaft are engineered together to enhance wedge performance. Hand-position indicators on the grip provide greater shot-making versatility, while a low balance point improves feel of the club head. The patented Dyla-Grip is 3/4 in. longer than a standard grip, has a reduced taper, and features alignment markings for grip position, shaft lean, and face manipulation — making it easier to choke down and execute a wider range of shots. PING Colour Code Chart

The PING Colour Code Chart is a fitting tool used to determine the optimal iron and wedge specifications for each golfer, based on physical measurements (height and wrist-to-floor distance) and swing dynamics. Each colour in the chart represents a specific combination of club specifications, including lie angle and shaft length. Grip size is also an important consideration that should not be overlooked.

LIE ANGLE: The angle between the shaft and the ground at impact. Lie angle directly affects the direction the ball travels after being struck — an incorrect lie angle can cause shots to miss left or right of the target consistently.
Shaft Length: Shaft length can influence a golfer's posture, swing plane, and ultimately distance and accuracy. Longer shafts generally produce greater distance but may compromise control, while shorter shafts typically offer better control but may reduce distance.
Grip Size: Grip size affects comfort, control, and feel. Golfers with larger hands may prefer thicker grips for better control, while those with smaller hands may prefer thinner grips for improved feel and feedback.

By consulting the Colour Code Chart, golfers and fitters can determine the appropriate colour code. For example, a taller golfer with a flatter swing may require a different colour code than a shorter golfer with a more upright swing plane. Note that on the Midnight finish, only 5 colour codes are available, ranging from 2° flat (orange) to 2° upright (green).
