Description

Callaway CB 12 wedge, graphite

A new spin on forgiveness. The Callaway CB 12 (2025) combines the best of two worlds: the off-center forgiveness of a cavity back wedge with the tour-inspired shape, control, and feel of a classic short-game club. A wide Tri-Sole for more consistency around the green and 12g of perimeter weighting deliver maximum forgiveness on every wedge shot, from full swings to delicate greenside chips.

Designed for mid-to-high handicap golfers who want reliable, consistent performance in their short game, the CB 12 pairs a confidence-inspiring address profile with proven OPUS groove technology — so you can attack pins and escape tough lies with equal assurance, even on off-center strikes.

Key Features

Cavity Back Design: Deep cavity back with a larger head and thicker topline inspires trust and adds stability at impact.
12g Perimeter Weighting: Redistributed mass around the perimeter maximises forgiveness on both full swings and short-game mis-hits.
Chamfered Leading Edge: Resists digging into turf for cleaner, more consistent contact across a variety of lies.
OPUS Groove Platform: Tighter-pitch grooves with 37-degree angled sidewalls engage more groove edges with the ball for maximum spin and control.
Urethane Microspheres: Strategically placed behind the face to absorb unwanted vibrations while preserving soft, responsive feel and feedback.
Wide Sole Tri-Sole: Tri-level sole grind adds versatility across all six lofts, helping golfers handle chips, pitches, and bunker shots without sacrificing playability.
Project X Denali Green 90 Graphite Shaft: Lightweight 90g graphite shaft in Wedge flex for smooth, consistent tempo through the hitting zone.

Technology in Detail

Modern, Confidence-Inspiring Cavity Back Shape

The CB 12 features a deep cavity back with a larger head profile and a thicker topline that immediately inspires trust at address. The cavity back construction removes mass from behind the centre of the face and redistributes it to the perimeter, creating a higher moment of inertia and significantly more stability on off-centre hits. Combined with 12g of dedicated perimeter weighting, mis-hits retain more speed and fly with better direction than a traditional blade or muscle-back wedge. The chamfered leading edge further assists by resisting digging into turf, producing a cleaner, shallower interaction whether you are playing from a tight fairway, light rough, or a firm bunker face. The result is a wedge that looks approachable, plays forgivingly, and fits seamlessly into any game-improvement setup.

OPUS Groove Platform — Easy Spin and Control

The CB 12 shares its groove architecture with Callaway's tour-validated Opus wedge lineup, bringing elite-level spin performance to a forgiving, player-friendly package. The OPUS groove design features a tighter groove pitch — placing more grooves on the face — combined with a precise 37-degree angled sidewall on each groove. This geometry engages more groove edges with the ball at impact, generating lower launch and significantly higher spin rates on both full shots and delicate greenside touches. Whether you are attacking a tight pin, playing a flop from the rough, or chipping from a tight lie, the OPUS groove platform provides the grab and bite needed to stop the ball close to the hole. The face also features a micro-texture blast that enhances surface roughness for additional spin contribution at every impact location.

Urethane Microspheres — Premium Feel and Sound

Callaway's proprietary Urethane Microspheres are strategically embedded in a pad positioned low behind the face, directly in line with the primary impact zone. These tiny spheres compress at impact to absorb harsh vibrations that would otherwise travel through the hosel and into the golfer's hands, producing a noticeably softer and more refined sensation without masking the feedback needed to assess strike quality. The technology works in concert with the softer carbon steel head material and an optimised centre of gravity position to deliver a premium, responsive feel on every shot — from full-power pitch shots to the most delicate greenside chips. Players who have experienced Urethane Microspheres in previous Callaway CB wedges will find the CB 12 raises the bar again for feel within the game-improvement wedge category.

Wide Sole Tri-Sole — Versatility Without Compromise

A single, consistent Tri-Sole grind is shared across all six loft options of the CB 12, giving golfers a reliable and predictable sole interaction regardless of which wedge they reach for. The tri-level sole geometry adds versatility to the wide, forgiving sole profile — reducing the effective bounce in open-face situations while maintaining full sole support on standard pitch and chip shots. This means the CB 12 is not just an easy-launching sand wedge; it performs equally well on tight lies, from light rough, and for high-spinning pitch shots where traditional wide-sole designs can feel restrictive. For golfers who frequently hit slightly behind the ball or struggle from soft bunker sand, the Tri-Sole's wide contact patch with the turf and sand significantly mitigates the penalty, allowing the ball to still carry an acceptable distance with reasonable spin.
