Very few times in club design can you say a true barrier has been broken. The Callaway Opus Platinum Blue is a genuine leap forward in wedge technology, fusing advancements from Metal Injection Molding (MiM) and tungsten for superior launch control. MiM Construction has opened the door for Callaway to deliver precision in wedge construction like never before, dialling in touch and feel precisely where players need it most. Tungsten incorporated into the topline brings ball flight lower for greater control and spin into greens — making Opus Platinum the most technically advanced wedge Callaway has ever produced.
The Opus Platinum has been designed through Metal Injection Molding (MiM), using a proprietary blend of metals to precisely dial in both performance and feel. Unlike traditional casting, MiM allows Callaway engineers to control material density and distribution at a microscopic level, achieving tolerances that were previously impossible in wedge manufacturing. The result is a head that responds with exceptional consistency shot after shot, giving golfers the confidence to attack pins from any distance. This level of craftsmanship is what earns the Opus Platinum its name — and its place at the very top of Callaway's wedge range.
By incorporating 17 grams of tungsten bonded high in the topline, Callaway has raised the effective center of gravity in a way that naturally promotes a lower, more penetrating ball flight. This lower launch angle translates directly into more spin and control as the ball lands on the green — particularly valuable on firm, fast courses where stopping power is at a premium. The tungsten is precisely positioned to maximise this effect without compromising the clean, tour-preferred aesthetics of the club head. Players will notice a more consistent, workable trajectory on full swings and aggressive pitches alike.
Spin Gen Face Technology delivers spin and control by combining three key elements on the face: an all-new tighter pitch that places more grooves across the face surface, an offset groove-in-groove design that generates spin even when the face is opened for flop shots and bunker play, and a new aggressive face blast texture that bites into the ball for spin and control on partial shots. These three elements work in conjunction to provide crisp, Tour-level spin that promotes short-game action and control unlike anything seen before in a Callaway wedge. Whether you are hitting a full approach from 100 yards or a delicate chip from just off the fringe, Spin Gen Face Technology ensures the ball responds exactly as intended.
The Opus Platinum features the most extensively Tour-tested and Tour-validated wedge shape in Callaway's history. After working with tour professionals through countless prototype iterations, Callaway arrived at a shape that earned universal approval on Tour: a higher toe peak for a more confident address position, a radius in the leading edge that promotes cleaner contact through the turf, and smoother hosel transitions that improve the overall look and feel at setup. These shaping refinements make the Opus Platinum not only the most technologically advanced wedge Callaway has produced, but also their best-looking — a club players will be proud to pull from the bag in any situation.
