Spin Gen Face Technology™ — Explained

At the heart of the Opus wedge is Spin Gen Face Technology™, a three-part system engineered to generate maximum friction and spin regardless of shot type or conditions:

1. Tighter Groove Pitch: By placing grooves closer together, Callaway engineers have increased the total number of grooves across the hitting surface. More grooves mean more edges channelling moisture and debris away from the ball-face contact zone, resulting in superior grip and spin on every full shot.
2. Offset Groove-in-Groove: A secondary micro-groove is machined between the primary grooves at an offset angle. When the face is opened for flop shots, chip-and-runs, or bunker play, these additional edges engage the ball and maintain spin rates even when the primary grooves are less effective — available on lofts 54°–60°.
3. Aggressive Face Blast: The face surface between the grooves is subjected to an intensified blasting process that creates a microscopically rough texture. This texture maximises friction on partial shots — pitches, bump-and-runs, and lag chips — where groove contact alone is limited.
