The TaylorMade MG5 "TW Grind" is more than just a tool — it is the result of direct collaboration with tour professionals who demand the ultimate in feel, precision, and control. Fully forged from soft carbon steel for the first time in the Milled Grind lineage, paired with all-new aggressive saw-milled grooves and the proven Spin Tread Technology, the MG5 TW Grind gives golfers who seek precision performance a genuine competitive edge in every short-game situation.
Ideal for golfers who expect world-class feel and technical excellence, and who require the very best short-game instrument — one that performs equally well on the practice green and at the highest level of professional play. Available in 56° (12° bounce) and 60° (11° bounce), both in the TW Grind sole profile developed in direct collaboration with Tiger Woods.
For the very first time in the Milled Grind wedge family, the MG5 is completely forged from soft carbon steel. The forging process fundamentally transforms how the club feels at impact: where cast heads can feel hard and hollow, a fully forged head transmits a pure, dampened sensation directly to the golfer's hands. TaylorMade's R&D team spent countless hours with the best players in the world, learning that a wedge can never feel soft enough — and with the MG5 they responded decisively. The result is a dramatically softer feel on pitch shots, chips, and finesse shots around the green, giving skilled players the confidence to commit to delicate touch shots when every centimeter counts.
MG5 wedges combine a RAW face finish with the innovative Spin Tread Technology to help you maintain more spin and control even in wet conditions. Situated continuously across the face between the grooves, the laser-etched Spin Tread channels act like all-season tires on a wet road, redirecting moisture away from the ball-face interface at the moment of impact and dramatically increasing friction. Working in concert with the new saw-milled grooves, Spin Tread Technology enables the MG5 to retain 13% more spin than the MG4 in wet conditions while also maintaining a more consistent launch angle between wet and dry shots. The RAW face continues to develop surface friction over time as it naturally oxidizes, ensuring long-term spin performance.
The MG5 is the first wedge in the Milled Grind line to use an entirely new saw-milling machining process for groove creation. This precision process tightens tolerances far beyond what was previously achievable, allowing TaylorMade engineers to push groove geometry right to the USGA legal limit. The resulting grooves feature steeper walls and sharper radii that bite aggressively into the ball at impact, generating more spin on every shot — from full swings to delicate partial pitches. Whether you are attacking a tucked pin with a high, soft-landing lob or spinning a sand shot back to the flag, the redesigned groove geometry gives you maximum control and predictability in every situation around the green.
The TW Grind sole profile is built around Tiger's exacting performance requirements and is updated for MG5 to match his current grind preferences. The sole features a new leading-edge blend and increased effective bounce in the heel area, making it supremely versatile across a wide range of turf conditions and shot types. The 56° TW features a dual sole with meaningful heel relief, optimized for those who play with shallow divots and demand versatility. The 60° TW is built with increased camber and a shaved heel for a more bounce-forward profile, enabling the full repertoire of lob and flop shots from tight and fluffy lies alike. As Tiger himself stated, these grind profiles allow him to hit every shot he needs in every condition.
