Description

PING Blueprint S men's irons, steel

Premium forged irons engineered for the demanding player. The PING Blueprint S are top-tier player's cavity back irons developed in close collaboration with PING's best tour professionals. They deliver a compact head shape, thin topline, minimal offset, and an authentic forged feel — while offering measurably more forgiveness than a traditional blade. For low-handicap, performance-oriented golfers who demand shot-shaping control, consistent trajectory, and score-lowering precision, the Blueprint S represents the ideal blend of tour playability and added tolerance.

These irons are best suited for:

  • Skilled and performance players with a low handicap seeking forged player's irons with added forgiveness.
  • Golfers who prefer a compact shape, minimal offset, and the ability to work the ball — without committing to a pure blade.
  • Players building combo sets — lofts are matched with the Blueprint T (for longer irons) and the i230 (for shorter irons), ensuring seamless gapping across the set.

Key Features

  • Forged 8620 Carbon Steel: Fully forged head construction from 8620 carbon steel delivers exceptional feel and responsive feedback on every strike.
  • Precision-Pocket Forging (3–5 iron): Patented pocket forged into the cavity of the 3, 4, and 5 irons saves 10 g of weight, redistributed to increase MOI and forgiveness.
  • Elastomer Insert: Internal elastomer insert delivers a solid, pleasing feel and sound at impact across all irons in the set.
  • Pro-Preferred Look: Compact head with a thin topline, minimal offset, and shorter blade length creates a confident, clean address appearance beloved by tour players.
  • Machined Face & Grooves: Precision-milled grooves optimise launch angle and spin for pinpoint control, delivering higher ball speed and improved peak height versus previous generations.
  • Narrower Sole with Tungsten Toe Weights: High-density tungsten toe weights allow fine swingweight tuning, while the narrow sole ensures consistent turf interaction in all conditions.
  • Combo-Set Ready: Standard lofts are identical to Blueprint T and i230, allowing seamless mixed-set configurations.
  • Tour Validated: Irons 6 through PW are shaped and sized for outstanding playability and control — proven on tour where Sahith Theegala earned the first win with the Blueprint S.

Technology in Detail

Forged for the Best

Extensive testing alongside PING's top tour professionals was fundamental to every design decision in the Blueprint S. No detail was overlooked — the result is a set of forged irons with unique distinguishing characteristics that deliver the shot-shaping precision and score-lowering performance that the world's best players require. The fully forged, 8620 carbon steel head construction produces an exceptional, responsive feel that skilled players expect and reward.

Precision-Pocket Forging

Using a patented technique, a pocket is forged directly into the cavity of the 3-, 4-, and 5-irons. This process saves 10 g of material weight, which is strategically redistributed to increase the moment of inertia (MOI) and deliver added tolerance on off-centre strikes in the longer irons where precision is most challenging. An elastomer insert fills the pocket to maintain a solid, satisfying impact feel and clean acoustic response.

Pro-Preferred Look

The compact head shape features a thin topline, minimal offset, and a shorter blade length — all elements that appeal to the discerning eye of a skilled golfer at address. This design was developed directly in partnership with leading PING Tour professionals who wanted a blade-style iron that could still provide the workability and control they depend on under pressure. The result is a clean, confident look that inspires trust from address to follow-through.

Machined Face & Grooves

The face and grooves are precision-milled to exacting tolerances, producing the preferred launch and spin conditions that players who rely on pinpoint control demand. In tour player testing, the Blueprint S generated higher ball speed than previous iron generations and simultaneously elevated peak height — translating into better stopping power on approach shots into the green. The consistency of the machined surface ensures repeatable, predictable performance in all conditions.

Early Tour Validation

The 6-iron through pitching wedge in the Blueprint S set were dimensioned and shaped to be exceptionally playable and easy to control — qualities that PING's tour professionals recognised immediately when the design was introduced. Sahith Theegala was the first to win with the Blueprint S on tour, specifically praising the straighter, more penetrating ball flight and the consistent distance control from iron to iron. Louis Oosthuizen subsequently recorded multiple consecutive victories using a combo set combining Blueprint S and Blueprint T irons, further validating the performance of this design at the highest level of competition.

Shaft & Grip

True Temper Dynamic Gold 120 is the standard steel shaft, delivering a low trajectory, low spin, and tour-level precision in a lighter steel construction — available in S300 (stiff, 112 g) and X100 (x-stiff, 114 g). Other shaft options are available on request.

The standard grip is the Golf Pride 360 Tour Velvet, featuring a patented non-slip surface that provides exceptional responsiveness and all-day comfort. The Golf Pride 360 Tour Velvet Cord grip is available on request for players who prefer added tack and moisture management.

Notes

  • These are design specifications that may vary due to manufacturing tolerances.
  • Lie angle is based on Black Colour Code at standard length.
  • Power Spec Loft is a fitting option for players looking to boost iron distance or decrease spin to achieve a desired trajectory window — a calculated performance boost without compromising the club's design integrity.
  • Retro Spec Loft is a fitting option for players less concerned with maximum distance and more with precision, higher trajectory, and greater stopping power — ideal for a 3-wedge setup or more classic loft configuration.
  • Club bounce angles will vary slightly if ordered with non-standard loft specifications.
  • Achievable swingweights depend on shaft, length, and grip combinations.
  • Available in both right-handed and left-handed models.

PING Colour Code Chart

The PING Colour Code Chart is a fitting tool used to determine the optimal iron specifications for each individual golfer, based on their physical measurements (height and wrist-to-floor distance) and swing dynamics. Each colour code represents a specific combination of iron specifications — primarily lie angle and shaft length — that matches the golfer's body and swing plane for maximum performance.

  • Lie Angle: The angle between the shaft and the ground at impact. Correct lie angle influences the direction the ball travels and ensures the sole sits flush through the hitting zone, promoting accurate, consistent contact.
  • Shaft Length: Shaft length affects posture, swing plane, and ultimately distance and accuracy. Longer shafts generally promote more distance but can reduce control; shorter shafts typically offer greater precision at some cost to distance.
  • Grip Size: Grip size affects comfort, control, and feel. Golfers with larger hands may prefer thicker grips for better control, while players with smaller hands often benefit from a thinner grip for improved feel and feedback.

By applying the Colour Code Chart, golfers and fitting professionals can determine the correct colour code for a given player. For example, a taller golfer with a flatter swing plane may require a different code than a shorter player with a more upright swing — ensuring every iron in the set performs as it was designed to.
