The chart uses a series of colour codes, each representing a specific combination of iron specifications such as lie angle and shaft length. Correct grip size should also be taken into account.
• LIE ANGLE: This is the angle between the shaft and the ground at address. The lie angle directly influences the direction the ball travels at impact — a lie angle that is too upright or too flat will cause the ball to miss its intended target.
• Shaft Length: Shaft length affects the golfer's posture, swing plane, and ultimately distance and accuracy. Longer shafts generally allow for greater distance but can reduce control, while shorter shafts may offer more precision at the cost of some distance.
• Grip Size: Grip size affects the golfer's comfort, feel, and control. Golfers with larger hands may prefer thicker grips for better control, while those with smaller hands may prefer thinner grips for a more sensitive feel.
Using the chart, golfers and fitting professionals can identify the correct colour code. For example, a taller golfer with a flatter swing may require a different colour code than a shorter golfer with a more upright swing plane.
