The PING G440 SFT is a men's fairway wood engineered specifically for golfers who need help correcting a slice. Its draw-inducing centre of gravity (CG) placement promotes a draw ball flight and brings shots back into the fairway, delivering straighter, more consistent results off the tee and off the deck. The taller face inspires confidence at address, while the combination of a Free Hosel and Carbonfly Wrap crown lowers the CG, maximises forgiveness on off-centre strikes, and produces a muted, pleasing sound at impact. Lofts are adjustable ± 1.5° and the lie can be set up to 3° flatter than standard, allowing the club to be precision-fitted to any swing.
The innovative Free Hosel design removes 11.5 g of weight from the hosel, screw, and heel section of the head. That saved mass is strategically redistributed to lower the centre of gravity and widen the effective hitting area across the face. The result is a club that launches the ball higher, maintains ball speed on off-centre hits, and delivers the forgiveness that mid-handicap players demand. In the SFT, the low CG works hand-in-hand with the draw-biased head shape to amplify the slice-correcting effect and provide a more controlled, penetrating flight.
The maraging steel face of the G440 SFT is taller than its predecessor, giving you a larger, more confidence-inspiring profile at address. Thickness is precisely optimised in the heel and toe regions so that ball speed is maintained even when contact strays from the centre of the face. The redesigned face structure flexes efficiently at impact to convert swing energy into ball speed, while the taller profile raises the effective launch angle off the tee. Whether you are hitting a tee shot on a par-5 or going for a long approach, the face geometry encourages a high, powerful flight with reduced side spin.
The Carbonfly Wrap crown uses a lightweight carbon fibre construction to save significant weight that is then redistributed throughout the head to push the CG lower and further back. This lower, deeper CG position is key to the high-launching character of the G440 SFT — the ball climbs quickly off the face and reaches an optimal apex for maximum carry. The carbon crown also plays an important role in sound engineering: the material damps unwanted frequencies at impact, producing the muted, pleasant click that PING fairway woods are renowned for. Every aspect of the Carbonfly Wrap is tuned to improve both performance and the sensory experience of the shot.
Common to all models in the G440 fairway family, the Contoured Sole Design features a slimmer back-weight profile that allows the club to sit flush on the ground at address. This is especially important in a club with an adjustable hosel: when you change the loft or lie setting, the sole geometry ensures that the face angle remains consistent and the club still presents squarely to the ball. The slimmer profile also improves turf interaction, helping the head glide cleanly through the hitting area whether you are playing from the tee, tight fairway lies, or light rough. The result is predictable performance every time, regardless of how you have dialled in your setup.
For golfers with slower swing speeds who need additional help generating speed, height, and distance, PING offers the G440 SFT HL (High Launch) variant. HL fairways are engineered with a lighter back weight that promotes an even higher launch angle and easier carry. They are paired with the ultralight PING Alta Quick shaft and a 41 g Lamkin UTx Lite grip, reducing overall club weight so the head can be swung faster with less effort. The HL build is an excellent choice for senior players or anyone who struggles to carry the ball as far as they would like with a standard-weight fairway wood.
PING offers a range of purpose-designed shafts to match the G440 SFT to any swing profile. The counter-balanced Alta CB Blue 65 is a lighter option engineered to help increase clubhead speed while promoting a mid-high to high ball flight — ideal for players seeking both distance and easy launch. The PING Tour 2.0 Chrome 75 delivers a low-to-mid ball flight with excellent control and precision, suiting players who want a more workable, penetrating trajectory. The PING Tour 2.0 Black provides low launch and low spin, making it the preferred choice for faster swing speeds where keeping the ball under control is a priority. All shafts are available in multiple flex options so that every golfer can find the combination that best matches their tempo and swing speed.
