The shallower and thinner face design of the G440 is a deliberate weight-saving measure: the mass liberated from the face is repositioned lower in the head and pushed further back toward the sole. This dual relocation reduces the centre of gravity (CG) to promote a higher, more penetrating ball flight with increased carry distance. Simultaneously, the high moment of inertia (MOI) resists twisting on off-centre strikes, keeping dispersion tight even when contact is not perfect — a critical benefit for mid-handicap players seeking consistency on every approach.
The G440's face is designed with reduced face height and a shorter blade length compared to traditional game-improvement irons, while the thin topline creates the clean, compact look at address that better golfers prefer. PING has increased the shaft length of the 4-, 5- and 6-irons by 1/8" relative to the previous G430 generation. This seemingly small change has a meaningful effect on performance: extra shaft length promotes greater club head speed through the hitting zone, which translates directly into higher ball speed, a higher launch angle, and additional carry distance from the longer end of the bag. Crucially, the progressive length design also helps to standardise distance gaps between adjacent clubs, so the step from long iron to mid-iron is predictable and reliable on every course.
The G440 56° wedge is directly inspired by the legendary PING EYE2 design, one of the most revered sand wedge profiles in the history of the game. It features a carefully engineered bounce profile and sole design that glide through sand and soft turf with minimal resistance, making bunker escapes significantly easier. The slimmer hosel gives the club a more refined look, while also allowing for improved versatility around the green — whether you're hitting a standard explosion shot, a bump-and-run, or a flop from a tight lie.

The PING Colour Code Chart is a fitting tool used to determine the optimal iron specifications for an individual golfer, based on their physical measurements (height and wrist-to-floor distance) and swing dynamics. Each colour code represents a specific combination of iron specifications — primarily lie angle and shaft length — ensuring that the club sits correctly at address and that the ball is struck with the most efficient impact geometry possible. Correct grip size is also an important part of the fitting process.
Using the colour code chart, golfers and club fitters can identify the correct specification code. For example, a taller player with a flatter swing may require a different colour code than a shorter player with a more upright swing plane.
